Putting Highlights into Eyes

Eye-exercise-complete002.jpg

When I'm painting any eyes with Pastel Pencils, I always put the highlight in first using a sharp white pencil. I then layer the other colours around it. Over a period of time working on the eye, it is possible that you start to lose that highlight. However with that white sharp pencil you can pick it out again because you put white underneath first. The important tip here is sharp pastel pencils. Sharp pencils are also useful for whiskers and eyelashes as they cut through the other colours. I have included my human eye tutorial below using faber-castell pitt pastel pencils. If you want to see more pastel pencil portrait tips, Click here for our free art courses.
