Use Less Base Colour to Achieve Stronger Tones

Ian has sent me his painting of the sunset project and has asked for my feedback.Using more base colour will weaken the stronger pastel going on top1This is a very good interpretation of the original but there are a couple of pointers I can suggest that would help Ian in future projects. The clouds could be improved with a more random approach at the moment they do look to uniform. This can be achieved by using round circular actions with the pencils rather that in straight lines this would give the clouds a looser appearance. On the edges of the clouds the dark and orange areas should merge together. The reflections in the water could have been stronger if less base colour was used underneath; the lighter colours have weakened the stronger tones in this case. It would be worth playing the video again to see how I tackled these areas. If you would like feedback on your artwork, join one of our membership packages found here.
