What Size of Paper Do I Use?

fabriano ingres pastel paperI choose to use A4 Paper both for my Pastel Pencil work and my Watercolour work. The working area on the page is slightly bigger than A5. I recommend my students to work on an area a little bit bigger than this though. With A4 paper it is important to leave a border of about 1 or 1 and a half centimetres or half inch to three-quarter inches. This gives the framer a good opportunity to secure the picture. It is good to make up a quarter inch of your picture’s edge a bit non-descript, especially on landscapes. In some cases the framer will have to come in a bit on the picture so as not to leave an “edge” of blank paper. You can purchase A4 Ingres Fabriano Pads on my art store, they contain 25 sheets in Portrait or Landscape orientation. I recommend Sand Coloured Ingres by Fabriano. What size paper do you prefer to work on? Let us know in the comments below.
