Choosing Pastel Paper - Tony's Pastel Painting FeedbackTony has sent me his painting of the kitten project and has asked for my opinion as to how this could be improved. Tony writes:"I wanted to start a new hobby, so in June I started watercolour painting following tutors on line. I saw your website and thought I would like to have a go at using pastel pencils. I have included in this email your kitten for you to look at and maybe give me some advice on it. I feel it went quite well as it is the first one I have done, and can’t wait to start another."As this is Tony’s first pastel pencil painting I feel that he has done well and is justified in being proud of his achievement. Tony has used very light paper for this picture and would have had a better result by using a mid-tone colour, like our sand coloured Ingres paper. The light paper weakened the white pastel pencil application giving the picture a ‘washed out’ look and the nose is just facing slightly to the right instead of to the left.Overall though a great effort and we look forward to seeing more of his projects in the future.
