How to Draw Feathers using Pastel Pencils

Since I introduced the colour shaper into my pastel pencil work, the effects I have been able to achieve have been incredible. I have said on many occasions on my podcast's and articles that the idea with pastel pencils is not to try and draw every hair or feather, but to create the impression of there being multiple hairs and feathers. This is always best seen rather than talked about. In the video below you can watch the early stages of building up base colours and using the colour shaper to smooth out and blend the pastel to create an incredible effect. This Puffin painting was done using 21 faber-castell pitt pastel pencils on sand coloured ingres pastel paper.Watch the video here.
