How to Draw a Border Collie Puppy using Pastel Pencils

Border-Collie-Puppy.jpg

Welcome to Colin’s Border Collie Puppy Tutorial.

With every tutorial Colin provides an outline drawing, meaning that you do not have to draw the picture free-hand. We have provided this outline drawing below.

Outline Drawing & Reference:

You can chose to draw the outline free-hand (Tip: use Colin’s Square Drawing Grids to create an accurate outline) or you can print Colin’s line drawing straight to Pastel Paper using your home printer. Click the images to enlarge. Colin recommends pictures to be drawn at A4 size, you can scale up your pictures using square drawing grids or you print the line drawing bigger.

Pencils used in this picture:

101 White, 230 Cold Grey I, 233 Cold Grey IV, 181 Payne's Grey, 182 Brown Ochre, 131 Medium Flesh, 199 Black and 168 Earth Green Yellowish.border-collie-puppy-colour-chartTo colour the picture Colin uses just 8 Pastel Pencils. He chooses and refers to the Faber-Castell Pitt Range of Pastel Pencils as these are his preferred make. The Faber-Castell range have a higher pigmentation and are more robust compared to other brands (less prone to leads cracking). However, you can use any brand of pastel pencils to complete the picture. You can compare the colours with our Faber-Castell Colour Chart.
