Drawing an "Art Deco" Lady - Use Pastel Pencils?

This question came from one of our members Kerrie. She asked:"Hello Mr Bradley, I am looking for some advice, I am attempting to draw an 'Art Deco' lady but I am unsure where to start with the gold coloured beads and necklace. If you could give me a few tips that as usual would be extremely helpful. Thank you so much. Kerrie x"image1This picture would have to be rethought if pastel pencils are to used, I would certainly not attempt it.If Kerrie really wants to do this then I would suggest that it is carefully drawn out then a simple background colour should be applied and blended well into the paper as it would be impossible to add a background once the details are drawn in. Ivory or light grey (230 or 270) could also be used as a background colour. Then the details, beads and necklace etc can be drawn in using the pastel pencils on top of the background. The best I could suggest for the gold is - 270 followed by 182 the finished with 183, this is not perfect but I think would be the nearest tone to the gold. There is not one colour that would work.I hope this helps Kerrie and anyone else wanting to do a similar picture in future.
