Avril's first picture with Pastel Pencils

Avril has sent me her painting of the Harbour Scene and has asked for feedback, Avril writes:

My first attempt at pastels. Would appreciate feedback on how to improve it. I have just started drawing in the past couple of weeks as you can see, I'm pretty much a complete novice. I have enjoyed it though, and am going to do another one the same, using your feedback.

Avril's First Attempt using Pastel PencilsOnce again I am amazed at the standard that our members are able to achieve at the first attempt. If you compare Avril’s painting with the original above you will see just how good this is. The only thing that is obvious is the crispness of the details. This may well have been too much base colour thus weakening the strong tones when placed on top. This will be corrected with more practice and I would suggest that Avril tries the same picture again this time applying the stronger colours with more confident strokes. The clouds are really tricky when you first start landscape work so I would suggest that Avril follows my original cloud details until she gains more experience. If you want to learn how to draw this landscape then click here to access Colin's course.
