Anne-Marie's Portrait Feedback

Anne-Marie's Portrait FeedbackAnne-Marie has sent me this lovely painting and has asked for my feedback; believe it or not it is his first portrait. It does seem a shame to pick holes in this excellent work, but if Anne-Marie takes on board the points below it will turn this painting from a very good one to a great one.The eyes are a little too open and as a result appear to stare; closing the eye a little would completely change the expression, see red arrow. The white arrow shows the line between the light and darker section of the cheekbone as too definite, this needs to be softened. The yellow arrow shows the wisps of hair being too solid, this is the most difficult adjustment to make, It would pay to practice trying to get this effect on spare paper first before altering the painting. The blue arrow shows where the edge of the hair needs to have a slight shadow; this can be achieved by using a colour shaper carefully blending the edge of the hair.
